The Hayling Detect team comprises technical experts and historians, we are lucky to be affiliated with Gary Blackwell, one of metal detecting’s leading experts and a popular YouTube personality.

Our sessions are led by passionate metal detectorist Gary Blackwell owner of the metal detecting Skill School who has a unique calm way of teaching and a lifelong advocate for responsible metal detecting. With decades of experience, Gary works alongside the top metal detector manufacturers including Minelab, XP, Rutus and Nokta.
Gary ensures every Detect-A-Day or 1 to 1 training session is memorable, safe, and engaging.

What’s It All About?

There’s history beneath your feet — and Detect-A-Day is your chance to uncover it.

We start with a friendly intro and safety briefing. Meet the team, learn about the site, and get familiar with the equipment.

Never used a detector before?
No problem. You’ll get hands-on tuition covering how to use your detector, identify signals, and dig responsibly.

Once you’re comfortable, it’s time to start exploring. Work in pairs or small groups, cover the land, and see what you can uncover.

Guidance Throughout – Our team is with you every step of the way, helping ID finds, offering pro tips, and making sure everyone’s having a great time.

At the end of the day, we gather as a group to examine and discuss any interesting finds — you never know what might turn up!
